Throughout the year we offer lots of creative learning opportunities for students of all ages. Your class can experience a live theatre show, enjoy world-class art exhibitions, or enjoy a creative workshop led by professional artists.
Working closely with the current curriculum, we’ve created a number of opportunities to support post-primary school learning at The Market Place Theatre, Armagh.

Our annual Musical Theatre workshop is back! Why not make good use of the holidays to learn or perfect your skills in acting, singing and dancing. Over the course of five days a professional director, musical director & choreographer will work with you on scenes, songs and dances from some of the most popular musicals around, before you perform ‘Showstoppers’ on The Market Place’s Main Stage in front of your own live audience. Believe us, it’s the best fun the summer can be! Participants should wear loose clothing & trainers and bring a snack & drink.

Create a series of hand pulled prints using a range of plates, with drawing and mark-making techniques for both dry point and collagraph printing. Participants will be introduced to chine collé which adds an alternative layer of colour to prints. Using your own images as source material [photographs or personal images can be used] the morning will be spent creating images to be printed in the afternoon.
All materials will be provided however participants should supply their own images to work from to create personal prints.

Release your inner potter with a Thomas Powell Pottery Workshop.
During the workshop each prospective potter will get to throw on the potter’s wheel and will also decorate two mugs each with their own design, as well as trying their hand at other techniques including coiling and pulling handles. Participants will end the day with a selection of pots which Thomas will take back to his workshop to be glazed and fired in a kiln. The pots will be ready for collection from the Market Place Theatre and Art Centre a few weeks later. Materials are supplied, all you need to bring is suitable clothing for a day of pottery and a touch of creativity.

Join artist Niamh O'Connor on this introduction to stylus and transfer work with wax.
Have you tried wax painting with an Iron? Do you want to learn more? Work bigger? Create fabric transfers and tissue collage? Try stylus work on card and wood? This one day European Encaustic class introduces you to all these explorative ways with wax, in a fun and informative session that expands on your understanding of this ancient medium. You will take home a range of designed work on different surfaces.
Materials and equipment provided, participants are encouraged to wear old clothes/apron and bring a box of tissues.
